Strategy 2002-2003

Delivery of Electronic Services

We shall concentrate on providing land registration services electronically. We are committed to achieving the Prime Minister's target of delivering all public services electronically by 2005.

We do, however, recognise that a proportion of our customers will wish to deal with us through traditional methods (e.g. post, telephone) and we will continue to provide them.

We will launch our new internet-based Direct Access Service aimed at the general public towards the end of 2002. This will enable anyone paying online by credit card to access the Land Register and view any of our 18 million individual registers and title plans.

We will release our database of deeds referred to on the register. These deeds contain easements and restrictive covenants that our staff decided, on registration, would be better read in the context of the original deed.

We are scanning some 95 million pages of deeds. We will have reached a critical mass of 50 percent by Autumn 2002, when we intend to make the electronic database of deeds available, initially to our business customers, via Land Registry Direct.
