Vectorisation of the Index Map

We started to computerise our paper-based Index Maps in September 2001 and teams at all 24 local offices are now operational. There are 450,000 paper index maps, at various scales, covering England and Wales and these contain approximately 18 million registered titles. The index maps will all be converted into a vector polygon electronic format over a two-year period ending March 2004.

Vector polygons will improve the internal processing of searches and other applications and create an improved gateway to our electronic records and services. The project will deliver full access to map-based information for online customers.
